Battery Conditioning
A battery may need to be conditioned properly so as to operate at 100%. For tips on how to take proper care of your battery, click here.
First, charge your battery completely. Leaving it to charge overnight for at least 12 hours is strongly suggested, since it will guarantee the battery is completely and utterly charged up, and allow it to report if the battery is completely charged. Using the computer during this time won’t affect the battery, as long as you don’t interrupt the 12 hour charge cycle in anyway by unplugging the AC adaptor.
Secondly, drain the battery. You can do this by unplugging your laptop and letting it run on battery power alone till the battery is completely discharged. Turn off any of the battery saving settings on your computer, including those battery tips listed in the above section. This will speed up the discharging, but it will still take several hours. Running programs, playing graphics and processor-intensive games, listening to a CD, or watching a DVD with the graphics turn up, will speed up power usage too.
Thirdly, charge the battery up again. When the battery is so drained that your laptop can no longer turn on or wake from hibernation, plug your laptop in, and let it charge. Once it again it will take time. While you can still use the computer, don’t in any way unplug your laptop or interrupt charging. Doing so may necessitate the repetition of these instructions additional times.
Finally, repeat these instructions 2 to 3 times to get best results. Interrupting the first or second charging cycles may require that you repeat these instructions again. It shouldn’t take more than 5 proper repetitions of these instructions before the battery is fully conditioned and will run at 100%.
